Coaching support helps young men find work with Pendle Borough Council
In September 2022, Millie Martin was referred to Pendle YES Hub by the local Department For Work and Pensions. The pandemic had left her feeling isolated, lacking confidence, and struggling to find employment. However, with support from Pendle YES Hub, Millie started accessing free training, support and voluntary opportunities. As a result she is now in a really good position to apply for a job.
Our Pendle YES Hub team initially spoke to Millie about all the courses we offer. Despite her initial lack of confidence, Millie was determined to explore her potential and find her path in life, showing interest in the Massage and Wellbeing Course delivered by White Rose Beauty College.
Millie’s hard work and perseverance paid off, and she achieved remarkable qualifications, including Level 1 in Beauty Therapy, Level 2 in Complimentary Therapies, and Level 2 in Customer Service.
These accomplishments not only boosted her self-assurance but also opened doors to new opportunities. Millie was inspired to give back to her community while learning new skills. She became a voluntary Digital Champion at Colne Library, relishing the chance to make a difference in the lives of others.
Millie says her goal is now to become a Librarian. She said, “Coming to the Hub has really helped me make new friends and figure out what I want to do.”
Determined to expand her horizons further, Millie now volunteers at Primet Primary School, where she read books to young children.
Pendle YES Hub continue to support her journey. With her confidence growing and her resume brimming with achievements, Millie is now receiving assistance to apply for job vacancies that align with her interests and aspirations. The future looks bright for this ambitious young woman.
