As a sport Welfare Officer, I support clubs and community groups in creating positive welfare cultures within their spaces, ensuring that members feel welcome, safe, valued and respected, whilst helping the club to develop and strengthen its provision.
Why I Do What I Do
My rugby club was a life saver for me; it provided me with the welcoming, inclusive space I needed to be myself, work on my mental health and become active in the process. Having that first-hand experience pushes me to help other clubs and community groups in achieving the same. Everyone should have the opportunity and confidence to take part in sport and physical activity.
Living Our Values
People First – Every conversation I have is about the person in front of me; not what I want to do for them but what they would like to get out of it, even if that’s something as simple as wanting an objective ear to offload to.
Working Together – My work is very much about connecting people and finding opportunities for collaboration. In truth, if we were able to create a sustainable network and positive cultures in every club I’d no longer be needed in my role… then together we’d have achieved something monumental.
My Active Lancashire
Outside of work I am the Chair of a rugby club where I also play rugby union and touch rugby. I’m also a keen walker and paddleboarder. I like being creative, especially painting when I can and I also have a cockapoo called Nala who keeps me even busier.
Favourite Green or Blue Space
There are plenty of outdoor spaces I love to go such as the woods and parks that we walk our dog close to home but one of my favourite places is the beach at Lytham St. Annes. We walk the dog there, sometimes take the rugby players there for a throw about or sometimes just go to admire the view. It’s a great place to get some peace and step out of the manic day to day.
A Project I’m Proud Of
In May 2025, we successfully launched the first series of Activate: Breakfast Clubs across five distinct districts in the county: Preston, Pendle, Blackpool, Wyre and West Lancs. A recurring theme in this feedback has been the feeling of isolation and lack of support experienced by many organisations. Furthermore, people have expressed confusion about how to navigate the vast amount of information available and how to establish meaningful connections to access necessary resources. The Breakfast Clubs offered an ideal platform for attendees to engage with one another and focus on their specific needs and interests, whether that be sharing personal experiences, exchanging knowledge, networking, or seeking valuable resources. By allowing participants to take ownership of their experience, the Breakfast Clubs served as a dynamic forum for growth and collaboration.
