Challenge Through Sport Initiative, a Lancashire-wide programme supporting individuals affected by substance misuse, has today rebranded as Active Recovery, marking a new chapter for the project and bringing it closer in line with its parent organisation, Active Lancashire.
Established in 2015, Challenge Through Sport Initiative is a bespoke behaviour-change programme that uses physical activity to support people in recovery from substance misuse, mental health challenges, and/or involvement in the criminal justice system.

The rebrand follows the confirmation of new funding from national substance misuse charity Change Grow Live, which will enable the programme to continue delivering and expanding its services for individuals across Lancashire. With the funding now in place, the team has taken the opportunity to refresh the programme’s name and visual identity, strengthening its alignment with Active Lancashire.
Under its new identity, Active Recovery will continue to provide free weekly physical activity and wellbeing sessions for individuals experiencing substance misuse. By aligning more closely with Active Lancashire’s branding, Active Recovery can now more effectively signpost participants to the charity’s wider range of services, including free training and qualifications, free bike hire, and additional employment support.

Darren Wright, Director of Communities at Active Lancashire, said: “After working closely with our team and service users over the past 12 months, we are proud to introduce our new Active Recovery brand. This new identity reflects the incredible progress, resilience and shared ambition we’ve seen across the service previously known as Challenge Through Sport Initiative.
“Under the newly launched CGL contract, we’re excited to continue delivering outstanding support that empowers people in recovery to improve their wellbeing, build confidence and engage in positive physical activity that supports long‑term change.”
